Asians in Animation (AIA) launched its new Animation Industry Production Training Program called the Asians in Animation Immersive Lab, designed to equip early and emerging Asian animation professionals with the skills and experience needed to thrive in the professional animation industry.
Through hands-on workshops and industry production pipeline exposure, participants gain a comprehensive understanding of the latest animation industry hot topics and how to sustain an ever-evolving career in creativity.

To kick off the inaugural lab, we partnered with the creative leadership of Netflix Animation’s ULTRAMAN: RISING to prepare talent to thrive and advance in studio feature film animation. These talks were open to the public to increase accessibility to artistic training, mentorship, and typically guarded information within the animation industry.

AIA welcomed its first lab cohort of 41 mentees.
With the ability to work with the top emerging talent of Asians in Animation, participants had nine days to produce a short film alongside a full production crew of emerging industry leaders and 14 industry mentors who have worked across game-changing studios, such as Pixar, Skydance Animation, Lucasfilm Animation and more.
As of December 2024, the lab cohort’s labor of love has now been crowned an award-winning short film. Our sweet Southeast Asian story is still making its rounds in the festival circuit. We look forward to sharing more about LITTLE PERSIMMON in 2025!

Mentors
Our production was graciously supported by mentors from the following studios:
Our mentors supported our lab participants and leaders before and throughout production, bringing hundreds of years of combined studio knowledge to our filmmakers. Their infectious encouragement, endless support, and thoughtful guidance fueled our crew’s creativity while setting realistic production expectations to immerse our participants in the “traditional” collaborative animation studio pipeline.
