What I Do: Student What I Am: Filipino Canadian Born and raised in Metro Vancouver, BC, Raphael Cardenas has used his lifelong passion for entertainment to propel his career path. As a Television and Video Production student at the British Columbia Institute of Technology, he has had hands-on experience in both the creative process, becoming the writer of one of four short films in the program, and the administrative side, having produced and assistant directed for student-led projects. Before this, he graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree, majoring in International Relations and minoring in Creative Writing. Now, he is joining Osgoode Hall Law School as a member of the class of 2027, hoping to specialize in IP law and serve the entertainment industry in a new way. Outside of academics, Raph has worked as a writer and magazine editor for university publications, working with contributors to highlight the interesting facets of campus life. He’s also been passionate about volunteering in his local community, most notably spending six years with the Richmond Olympic Oval. Fun fact: he’s a trivia enthusiast who hopes to one day make it on Jeopardy! Twice, he’s actually flown down to Los Angeles for the next round of auditions—and still has both souvenir pens to prove it. |
