Amiel Capinpin

Associate Director of Membership
Pronoun: he/him/his
What I Do: Membership Experience, Membership Database Management, and Team Care
What I am: 1st Generation Filipino American

Amiel currently works as a photo editor in the Los Angeles area while pursuing a career as a Storyboard Artist. He has freelanced as a Storyboard Artist on Senseless, an award-winning live-action short film following a young man’s traumatic lung collapse and ensuing recovery. He continues to improve his craft by regularly attending life drawing sessions and enrolling in courses at Concept Design Academy.

Amiel graduated from UCSD in 2017 with a degree in Media with an emphasis on Video & Digital Cinema and a minor in Studio Art. While in school, he interned for Sony at the National Association of Broadcasters’ Show and for the San Diego Asian Film Festival. After graduating, he served a year with Americorps to bring arts and media literacy education to underserved schools in San Diego. After two additional years of working as a Media Educator in the non-profit space, he decided to move to Los Angeles and pursue animation.

Amiel is inspired by stories that balance gravity and humor to capture the moments that make us feel most human and connected: Into the Spiderverse, Jojo Rabbit, K-On!, and Amphibia, and even some of his past students’ films. As an artist, former educator, and fan of fandoms his goal is to tell stories that get people to laugh, cry, start conversations, and form healthy communities with the people around them.

Fun Fact: He learned how to dance in college. His final dance competition was in Las Vegas of all places, where his team managed to win 3rd place! In a state of shock, Amiel and his teammates got back on stage to accept their award and collectively screamed for several minutes until the MC got them to stop.
