Animation Industry Immersion Lab Workshops
Asians in Animation (AIA) delivered two exceptional Immersive Lab Workshops in July 2024, providing a unique opportunity to unlock the secrets of success in the animation industry. Featuring top talents behind the Netflix feature ULTRAMAN: RISING, these workshops were meticulously designed to equip attendees with essential skills and insider knowledge.
The first workshop centered on visual development, led by a panel moderated by Sunmin Inn, Art Director of ULTRAMAN: RISING. Sunmin, with a decade of experience at leading studios like Disney, Sony, Warner Bros., and Google, shared her expertise from acclaimed projects such as STORKS, VIVO, MARY POPPINS RETURNS, and the Oscar-winning VR short PEARL. Alongside artists Ryo Yambe and Minako "Tomi" Tomigahara, she explored the daily practices that elevate professional animation work, offering attendees practical strategies for honing their craft.
The second workshop, "Path to Ultraman: Rising Behind the Scenes Story Walkthrough," provided an exclusive look into the art of storytelling. Co-Director John Aoshima and Head of Story Rie Koga led a captivating session, unveiling the intricate processes involved in crafting the film's narrative. Whether participants were students, aspiring artists, or seasoned professionals, this workshop offered invaluable guidance on refining writing and storytelling skills.
Tailored to refine daily habits and dive into behind-the-scenes storytelling, both workshops delivered enriching experiences, offering direct access to industry leaders and invaluable knowledge to advance careers in animation. AIA remains dedicated to fostering a community of growth and learning, and we eagerly anticipate bringing more engaging opportunities in the future.
